Simon Rea

Simon has extensive experience at Isos of education and public sector implementation and delivery, school-based action research and evaluations, working with school partnerships, and advising on organisational improvement.

Simon has led national research on education reforms and school partnerships for Isos working directly with hundreds of school leaders. His research on how school leaders and system leaders in England close attainment gaps (2011 and 2013), the leadership of primary schools (2014), and the work of teaching school alliances (2015) have all been published by the National College. He has worked with a range of local authorities to review and strengthen school improvement strategies, restructure responsibilities, and establish school-based partnerships. His expertise in successful delivery has resulted in him leading capacity building work in the education sector in the US and in the Punjab in Pakistan.

Simon has twenty years’ experience of public sector policy and delivery. He has a deep understanding of education reform from the classroom, as a secondary school teacher in a large London community school, to leading the Education Team in the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (PMDU). He spent two years working on a series of fast-paced reviews of Children’s Services’ responsibilities in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London. Simon currently volunteers as the chair of governors of a large London primary school.
